PopUps: 'American Horror Story' Season 7 Title, Air Date Announced

READ TIME: 1 MIN.

After months of teasing, new details on the upcoming season of "American Horror Story" have finally been revealed.

Though showrunner and co-creator Ryan Murphy has hinted that the next installment of the FX horror anthology series is inspired by the 2016 presidential election, it was revealed at Comic-Con Thursday night that Season 7 would be called "American Horror Story: Cult," Variety reports.

Along with the new title, it was also announced "AHS" would bow Sept. 5. FX launched a new website for "Cult," which features a teaser showing several creepy clowns praying over a pentagram. At the bottom of the site, there are eight links. All but link "Week One" are locked, which brings you to the clown trailer. It's presumed that a new teaser will be unlocked in the following weeks leading up to the premiere of "Cult."

As previously reported, "Cult" will star "AHS" vets Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters and others. Newcomers include Billie Lourd ("Scream Queens"), Billy Eichner "Billy on the Street") and others. Murphy announced this week Lena Dunham would be joining the "AHS" family, but her role in the show has yet been announced.
