Goodbye, Dolly! Bette to Leave Broadway Hit January 14

READ TIME: 1 MIN.

Rush and buy your tickets (if you can get them), Bette Midler's award-winning star turn in the Broadway revival of "Hello, Dolly!" will end on January 14.

The Divine Miss M, who has been wowing audiences and breaking box office records at the Shubert Theater in New York, will be departing the smash hit revival. No star replacement has been announced, although rumor have been floating for months that producers have reached out to country legend Dolly Parton to take over the role according to Naughty Gossip.

Although the production's Tuesday night Dolly (Midler's contract has her playing seven performances instead of the traditional eight), Donna Murphy wowed critics and audiences during Midler's two-week vacation, it's unlikely that the two-time Tony Award winner will step into the star's shoes full time.

BroadwayWorld notes that both "Hello, Dolly!" and Midler swept the awards season circuit. In addition to the Tony Awards, the Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, and Drama League organizations also recognized both the production and Midler with awards.
