Watch: Comedian Jim Jefferies Traces History of LGBTQ Military Discrimination in Hilarious Vid

READ TIME: 2 MIN.

In the wake of President Trump tweeting that transgender people would be banned from the U.S. military, comedian Jim Jefferies used a segment of his Comedy Central show to explore the long history of LGBTQ discrimination in the military.

"Trump's tweet just goes to show how fragile progress can be for the LGBTQ people in the armed forces," Jefferies said on his Tuesday night episode of "The Jeff Jefferies Show." He then goes back to 1778, explaining it was the first time a documented service member to be accused of sodomy and drummed out of the army.

"Back then soldiers were dishonorably discharged by being marched out to the sound of a drum. Humiliating! But on the upside, it was kinda the first gay pride parade: 'I'm here, I'm queer - I guess you're not used to it yet!" he jokes.

Jefferies then fast forwards to 1919 when Franklin D. Roosevelt, who was Secretary of the Navy at the time, launched a sting operation to seduce sailors suspected of being gay.

"It was their version of to 'Catch a Predator,' " Jeffries jokes.

He then leaps to 1953 when President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed an executive order calling "sexual perversion" a "security risk."

"How is someone's sexual lifestyle a security risk? Unless their safe word is the launch codes," he quips.

Jefferies then goes on to skewer the Department of Defense's directive that stated homosexuality is incompatible with military service because it "undermines discipline, good order and morale."

"If anyone understands discipline and order it's the guy with a six pack and a perfect tan! And morale?! And what's better for morale than blow jobs?!" the comedian yells.

Jefferies then comments on President Bill Clinton's decision to sign the "Don't Ask Don't Tell" act in 1993, or, as he puts it: "A policy he apparently borrowed from his own wedding vows."

After President Barack Obama repealed "DADT" in 2010, Jeffries adds, "This is where it should have stopped."

"With one tweet, Trump once again made an issue out of something that should have never been a problem to begin with," he says. "...LGBT soldiers have fought for decades just to be considered equals. After 'DADT' ended, they finally got to a place where the last thing they should have had to worry about is their job security.

"Transgender people are tough. It takes courage to make that change. You know what doesn't take courage? Sitting on the toilet and banging out a few tweets at 2 a.m," Jefferies says. "Shouldn't we applaud people who, despite their struggles, still see fit to put their country first... These people put their lives on the line for us every day. And I think we could all agree that takes balls - or not! It's your choice."

"The Jim Jefferies Show" airs Tuesday at 10:30 p.m. EST on Comedy Central.
