Happy Gay Pride: Photos Male Lions Having Sex Go Viral

This gives a new meaning to "gay pride."

Photos of two male lions appearing to have sex as a female lioness looks on are going viral this week, The Daily Mail reports.

Amateur wildlife photographer Russ Bridges snapped the moment at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Doncaster, England. The photo shows one male lion mounting another male lion in an attempt to mate.

"There are two males and female in that pride. One of the lions suddenly got up, walked over and jumped on his friend's back," Bridges told The Daily Mail. "A fair few people were watching this going on and laughing - they were all commenting on what it looked like.

"In fairness though, every time a male went near her she snarled and swiped their faces with her paw," he added. "It's not really unusual for them to act that way sometimes. I don't know if it's a dominance thing or something like that - it looks as if they are aggressive, but it's all play between friends."

Bridges, a 42-year-old warehouse shift manager, said he's taken the lions' photos before but this was the first time he's seen them exhibit homosexual behavior.

"Usually they lay asleep doing nothing when I go to photograph them, but this time they were up and about. My favorite shot is the one where he appears to be sticking his tongue out," he told The Daily Mail.
