Former News Anchor Opens Up About Life as a Gay Porn Star
READ TIME: 2 MIN.
A longtime news anchor for Fox, NBC, and CBS shifted gears in 2013, leaving his 23-year career in TV to do gay porn. Now the performer is opening up about his decision and what it's like to make a drastic career change.
Speaking with Pink News, Jim Walker, who won two regional Emmys and started working in news when he was 23, explains his TV bosses told him he wasn't responding well with viewers.
"I left the business in 2013 after my boss in Southwest Florida told me that research had shown 'people here just don't like you," Walker, 44, told the website. "Add to that, the immense pressure of daily ratings where your job is virtually on the line every single day."
He confessed he misses "telling great stories, I miss the rush of sharing breaking news, and I miss getting to know viewers, " but he adds he doesn't miss the pressures from the network and management.
"If they left the talent the fuck alone to be who we are, viewers would be a lot happier," Walker said. "Most anchors are so beat down, even they don't have a clue anymore about who they really are."
Walker, who performs under the name Dallas Steele, also opened up about criticism that he is "too old" to work in porn.
"They've obviously decided at some point that there are limitations about who you can be and what you can do once you hit 40," he said of his haters.
Pink News writes Walker is taking his new career seriously, having gotten butt implants which were "apparently paid for by an escort client."
"I'm sorry if the haters have decided that gays over forty are supposed to put on the board shorts, move to the suburbs and settle down to bridge parties once per week. I don't plan to ever go quietly into the night," he told the website.
Walker added he doesn't have any regrets leaving his TV career and diving headfirst into porn.
"I'm much more successful in every measure than I ever was before," he told Pink News.
