Entertainment Weekly debuted the first look of "Mr. Robot" star Rami Malek in the upcoming Freddie Mercury biopic "Bohemian Rhapsody."
"When you're able to open your eyes and see a different person staring back at you in the mirror, it's a very affirming moment," the actor told EW of his new look as the late Queen front man. He added looking like Mercury "only adds to the level of confidence that one would need to play [him.]"
The film, which is slated to hit screens on Christmas Day 2018, is directed by "X-Men" helmer Bryan Singer and follows the musician from 1970 when he teamed up with Brian May and Roger Taylor to form Queen and until the band's performance at Live Aid 1985 - six years before Mercury died of AIDS-related complications.
Malek also discussed how the film will both use his own singing voice as well as Mercury's recordings.
We're going to use Freddie as much as possible and use myself as much as possible," he told EW. "I'm in Abbey Road [Studios] right now if that should say anything to you. I'm not working on my acting."
Singer said "Bohemian Rhapsody" is "not a traditional biopic" but a story honoring Queen's music.
"It won't just be the dark Freddie story, but that being said, that also will be honored," Singer said. "It's about collaboration. It's a celebration."
It was announced in July that the film would start filming in September.
