Palace Of Fun
Roger Walker-Dack READ TIME: 1 MIN.
Brit filmmaker Edward Strong's directorial feature "Palace of Fun" is produced by one of his brothers, David, and stars another: George, who was also the co-writer. This dark thriller shows their obsession with old black and white movies. It's the story of two wealthy siblings who are enjoying the free run of their palatial family home near the sea in Brighton while their parents are vacationing abroad.
Their peaceful existence is disturbed when out of nowhere Lily (Phoebe Naughton)brings home Finn (Andrew Mullen), who is something of a drifter. She sees him as her new boyfriend even though she knows little about him. However, her rather caustic and somewhat jealous brother, Jamie (Stocks), makes it his purpose of finding out. When he discovers Finn's dark secret, he uses the information to blackmail Finn to satisfy his own sexual needs.
During the first part of the story the plot unfolds at such a slow pace it is akin to watching paint dry, but then things get interesting, and the film starts to engage our attention -- only to flounder once more, culminating with an obvious ending.
