Production on 'Sense8' Special is Underway
READ TIME: 2 MIN.
Yes, that two-hour "Sense8" special to wrap up the series that Netflix promised is actually happening.
Star Miguel Angel Silvestre, who plays Lito on the LGBTQ sci-fi series, took to Instagram this week, sharing an image of the script.
Entertainment Weekly points out a few clues from the photo, including four cities are highlighted: Berlin, Brussels, Paris, and Naples. It's assumed these cities will be the filming locations for the special.
Berlin, as Wolfgang's (Max Riemelt) home city, will likely serve as home base for scenes featuring the locksmith. Paris has been mentioned on the show as Kala (Tina Desai) and Wolfgang's destination for their first in-person meeting - a plan cut short thanks to the season 2 finale cliffhanger, which saw Wolfgang captured. Brussels and Naples, however, have never been locations on the show. Perhaps one of them will serve as a safe house the way Reykjavik and Amsterdam did in season 2?
According to Silvestre's post, the script lists Lana Wachowski, "Cloud Atlas" author David Mitchell and Aleksander Hermon (author of "Nowhere Man" and "The Lazarus Project) as writers for the special. Wachowski, along with her sister Lilly Wachowski, directed a film adaptation of "Cloud Atlas" in 2012. The sisters also co-created "Sense8" along with "Babylon 5" creator J. Michael Straczynski. Lana Wachowski has remained a showrunner for the Netflix program, as Lilly took a break from the show in its second season.
Straczynski later confirmed on Twitter that he will not be writing the "Sense8" special, adding he will remain an executive producer, however.
Earlier this year, Netflix canceled "Sense8" after two seasons, which lead to a public outcry. After a fan petition to have the show return, the streaming service greenlit a two-hour special to end the series.
The "Sense8" special will like debut in 2018.
