Watch: Gigi Gorgeous is Not a Parent, Doesn't Know What 'Surrogate' Means
READ TIME: 3 MIN.
Earlier this week, transgender YouTube star Gigi Gorgeous sparked speculation that she and her girlfriend Nats Getty became parents. The couple shared photos of themselves holding a newborn baby, captioning a photo "Thank you to our beautiful surrogate." Nats captioned a photo, "Our little angel."
But after the media picked up the story that the two were now the parents of a baby boy, Gigi's rep released a statement saying that's not the case. In a statement to Just Jared, the YouTuber's rep said the "use of the word surrogate was not meant the way it was received."
"On behalf of YouTube personality Gigi Gorgeous, I would like to clarify any rumors from the past few days regarding Gigi's Instagram post," Gigi's rep Laura Ackermann said. "Gigi and her girlfriend, Nats did not have a child together.
"Gigi's use of the word surrogate was not meant the way it was received," she went on to say. "Her use of the term while holding her friend's new baby was meant playfully, as she was stepping into the parenting role and caring for the child during her visit.
"She was so excited to help care for the baby and is thrilled to be a part of the child's life," Ackermann told Just Jared. "Gigi believes that family is what you make it and will help provide a support system for the child for many years to come."
Of course, the always charming Gigi and Nats shared a YouTube video called "The Truth" about the situation.
"The baby is not ours," Gigi says.
She explains that her friend recently went into labor and she and Nats spent the day visiting her until she gave birth. Several hours later, her friend gave birth.
"If you know me and my friends we travel in packs and this baby...is just all our baby. So we all literally felt like it was our baby we were going to see," Gigi says in the video.
Nats added that she "burst into tears" when she saw the newborn.
"I can't believe its our baby - and by our baby i mean like the squad's baby like everyone's baby he's here!" Gigi continued.
She then goes on to explain what she meant by using the word "surrogate" on social media.
"In this instance I think it opened up a lot of conversation about what a surrogate is," she said. "I think a lot of people had questions and I just want to thank the mama of the baby for giving the baby to our group and being the surrogate in that way."
"And the baby is not ours but we look at it like he is," Gigi goes on to say. "Given the time that were in with the relationships and the statuses of everybody a surrogate can be whatever you want it to be and thats not for public debate.
"And i think that's a lesson that we learned," the YouTube star said. "It's been a huge eye-opening experience for us and it's something were going to have to look into in the future. But for now we have this baby of course to love and spoil like it is our own but its not.
"I just want to make the clear because i know there was a lot of confusion...people just assume," Gigi said, later adding, "We hope this video is clear and you understand the situation."
