Track Palin Gets Ankle Bracelet for Blue Christmas Present

READ TIME: 2 MIN.

This year for Christmas, Track Palin, son of failed 2008 GOP vice presidential hopeful Sarah Palin, will receive an electronic monitoring device and judge's order to stay away from his family.

On Wednesday, following his arraignment this week on charges that he assaulted his father, Todd at the family home in Wasilla, Alaska, Track was approved for bail with electronic monitoring but remained in custody.

Associated Press reports that during a bail hearing in a Palmer courtroom Wednesday afternoon, the judge called for a mental health evaluation and electronic monitoring, but kept bail at $5,000 despite Palin's attorney's request to have it lowered. Palin's request to have a third party custodian requirement released was granted.

According to KTUU, Palin is charged with burglary and assault after allegedly breaking a window to gain access to his family's home, then beating his father, Todd Palin. Track's mother, Sarah Palin, called police. After Track's arrest, the family obtained an order of protection preventing Track from having any contact with his parents or younger siblings who live with them.

In court on Wednesday, Todd Palin spoke via telephone to say the family was ready to reestablish contact with Track again when he is released from jail.

The judge accepted the family's request but stipulated that Track should still stay away from their house.

According to Anchorage Daily News, Track was released from jail to house arrest on Thursday. His $5,000 bail was posted by Big Lake resident Kaleb Westfall.

ADN further reports that under the court's order, Palin can live alone at his Wasilla home. But he is under 24-hour supervision by Alaska Pretrial Services with an ankle monitor and a facial recognition device that tests for alcohol.

A private company was charged with clearing Palin's home of weapons and pills.

He is barred from his parents' home and anywhere alcohol is sold or consumed.
