Amazon Cancels Out Comedian Tig Notaro's 'One Mississippi' and More Shows

READ TIME: 1 MIN.

Out comedian Tig Notaro's Amazon series "One Mississippi" won't be getting a third season as the company announced Wednesday it canceled the comedy.

"One Mississippi" had strong critical approval, earning a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes for Season 2 and Notaro recently made headlines for an episode that showed sexual misconduct in the workplace. In the episode, a boss openly masturbates in front of another character, who is a friend of Notaro's character. It was later revealed the incident was a reference to the Louis C.K. scandal. C.K. served as an executive producer on "One Mississippi," but eventually left the show.

Notaro didn't directly comment on her show's cancelation but she retweeted actor Noah Harpster's tweet. Harpster played Notaro's brother on "One Mississippi."

Along with "One Mississippi," queer producer Jill Soloway's "I Love Dick," which starred Kathryn Hahn and Kevin Bacon, was also canceled. Soloway previously created "Transparent" for Amazon. The company also nixed Jean-Claude Van Damme's "Jean-Claude Van Johnson."

"This is part of a move towards bigger, wider-audience series," an Amazon insider told Deadline.

Deadline adds:

Amazon, which is on the hunt for big, broad drama hits, has dramatically pared down its comedy series slate, once populated heavily of quirky, underrated half-hour shows.

After "Transparent" star Jeffrey Tambor was accused of sexual misconduct by two women, including trans actress Trace Lysette who is a "Transparent" costar, it's unclear how Amazon will proceed with the future of the critically acclaimed dramedy.
