In Moving Instagram Post, Colton Haynes Mourns Loss of His Mother

After updating fans about his mother's health status last month, out actor Colton Haynes took to social media over the weekend to reveal his mother has died.

Haynes shared several photos on Instagram of himself and his mother, Dana Denise Mitchell, who died after a battle with liver cancer. In February the "American Horror Story" star shared her story and her struggle with affording in-home hospice care. Haynes and his five siblings launched a GoFundMe to help with the costs.

"It's heartbreaking," the actor wrote in February. "My strong mother has always been the anchor of this family and our best friend. Now we're being forced to say goodbye to her."

In his most recent posts, he called his mother his "best friend" and "the love of my life."

"Today, I lost my best friend, the love of my life: My momma. Words can't express how incredible this woman was. I have so many things to say but I'm in a state of shock. I will always love you, Momma. RIP my angel," he wrote.

Among the pics are photos of Haynes and his mother at his wedding to Jeff Letham, who posted his own tribute.

"My Beautiful Mother-In-Law is now dancing with Angels as Beautiful as she is," he wrote. "Her Fun Spirit and Lust for life was so inspiring. Dance away Beautiful Dana, Dance away, but know you are so very loved and will be missed everyday as we celebrate your life. Thank you for the gift of Beautiful Colton and his Brother and Sisters. I Love you."
