An actor who appeared in the Marvel blockbuster "Black Panther" is apologizing to some fans who took issue with the gay porn career he had in his 20s, Face 2 Face Africa reports.

Patrick Mutukwa Shumba, who played a Border Tribe warrior in the film, was touring his home country of Zambia last month when photos of the actor's gay porn past surfaced. Shumba, now based in Atlanta, was forced to apologize over the weekend after some people from the country "expressed disgust following the revelation that he was a gay porn actor," Face 2 Face Africa writes.

Shumba's publicist issued a statement Sunday saying the actor "recognizes his errored decision" and "owns up to the immature behavior in his past." The statement goes on to call his gay porn career "unsavory."

"What he did in his past has nothing to do with what he's accomplished and will continue to accomplish," the statement goes on to say, according to Face 2 Face Africa. "He has strong pride in Zambia and works hard to make the country and its citizens proud.

"That is his path and he has proven well beyond a doubt that who he is today and will be in the future," the rep added. "The man you've grown to love, not the youth that makes immature decisions."

Shumba later took to Facebook to offer more apologies to his fans in Zambia.

One post reads:

There's very few people whose opinion really matters at the end of the day. God, family and close friends. Make peace with that trinity and move on. Looking forward to an even amazing 2018. #LetLoveLead.

He also shared videos of himself explaining his past, saying when he moved to the U.S. it was hard for him to find work.

Gay sex is illegal for both men and women in Zambia, punishable as a felony with up to 14 years in prison.
