Female Trouble

Greg Vellante READ TIME: 1 MIN.

All she wanted was a pair of Cha-Cha heels. But when high school rebel Dawn Davenport opened up her Christmas presents, she realized her parents had failed her. So she toppled a Christmas tree onto her mother, hitched a ride with a dirty-dicked older man, got pregnant, became a criminal turned egocentric celebrity and earned a one-way trip into the electric chair.

John Waters' 1974 opus of the grotesque, "Female Trouble," follows the bizarre story of Dawn Davenport (played by his muse, Divine), and is one of the most hilariously twisted ventures into macabre imagination to ever grace the silver screen.

The film's homegrown roots, low budget and undeniably individual style have earned it a spot in the esteemed Criterion Collection, where viewers can enjoy a new, restored 4K digital transfer, supervised by Waters himself. Additional bonus features on the Blu-ray include:

Audio commentary from 2004 featuring Waters
New conversation between Waters and critic Dennis Lim
New and archival interviews with cast and crew members Mink Stole, Pat Moran, Vincent Peranio, Susan Lowe, Mary Vivian Pearce, Hilary Taylor, and Van Smith
Interview from 1975 featuring Waters and cast members Divine, Stole, and David Lochary
 Deleted scenes and alternate takes
 Rare on-set footage
An essay by film critic Ed Halter
