After reports recently surfaced that a new installment in the "Legally Blonde" franchise was in the works, Reese Witherspoon, who played Elle Woods in the first two films, confirmed on Instagram Thursday that a third film was a go.

In a video clip, Witherspoon is seen lounging on a float in a pool wearing a pink bikini, referencing an iconic scene in "Legally Blonde." She captioned the clip, "It's true..." adding the hashtag #LegallyBlonde3.

It's been nearly 20 years since the first "Legally Blonde" hit theaters. A sequel was released in 2003. Deadline reports Kirsten "Kiwi" Smith and Karen McCullah, who adapted the Amanda Brown novel for the first film, are in final talks to write the new script. Original producers will be teaming up with Witherspoon's Hello Sunshine production company. A director for the third movie has not been announced.
