Watch: 'Atlanta' Star Lakeith Stanfield Apologizes for Freestyle Rap with Gay Slur

"Atlanta" star Lakeith Stanfield is apologizing for a freestyle rap he posted on social media, which is now deleted, where he used anti-gay language and a gay slur, Pitchfork reports.

In his rap, Stanfield, who appeared in the Oscar-nominated film "Get Out" last year and will star in the upcoming comedy "Sorry to Bother You," rapped the lyrics, "that's some gay shit" and "I don't really like to brag, but I'm straight, rich." He also used the slur "fag."

Though he deleted the clip, Stanfield offered a video apology Wednesday on Twitter, explaining that he "makes videos all time which I usually end up deleting as soon as I make them." He went on to say that he "assumes characters with different viewpoints... from different perspectives," adding that sometimes his views line up with those characters' views and other times they don't.

Referring to the rap that had anti-gay lyrics, Stanfield said he's "definitely not in line" with that character and "definitely [doesn't] believe those things."

"I want people to know, coming from me, I've never been homophobic," he said. [I] have never agreed with homophobic thought or hatred toward anyone for that matter. I'm a person that moves in love and I want to promote and continue to push that.

"I apologize if I hurt anybody, sincerely," he says in the clip. "That wasn't my intention - to be somebody that was out here just slinging arrows and hurting people, so I want them to know that I apologize that they had to feel sadness from that. So my sincerest apologies."
