US Travel Ban Leaves Far-Flung Syrian Family in Limbo

The Supreme Court's decision to uphold President Donald Trump's travel ban has created yet another obstacle for Syrians scattered by war.
Dahouk al-Omar, a 68-year-old struggling to get by as an unregistered refugee in Lebanon, had hoped to join her son in Chicago. But the travel ban and other measures taken by the Trump administration to curb travel from war-torn Muslim countries have thrown those plans into doubt, leaving her in limbo.
A backlog of cases built up as the Trump administration worked its way through different versions of the ban, the first of which barred Syrian refugees until further notice.
Fadi Omarin, al-Omar's 48-year-old son, who was resettled in Chicago in 2015, says "I hope I can see her before something happens to her or to me."
