Watch: Man Arrested After Admitting to Stabbing His 2 Fathers in Calif. Home
READ TIME: 2 MIN.
Police say a young man admitted to stabbing his two fathers in their Sherman Oaks, Calif. home and was arrested for murder Tuesday, according to Los Angeles's CBS affiliate station KCAL 9.
The incident was reported around 1 a.m. and took place after an apparent argument ensued at the family's home.
The men have been identified by neighbors as partners Tom Boulet and Ken Coll, KCAL 9 reports. Officers found the men with several stab wounds and they were rushed into surgery. They currently are in critical condition but are expected to survive, according to the news station.
Matthew Boulet, 21, who is home from college for the summer, was found inside the house and allegedly admitted to stabbing his fathers to police. His face was bloody while being taken into custody, according to KCAL 9.
Police said they found a pocket knife and that Matthew Boulet suffered an injury to his hand during the incident. Authorities are now investigating if mental illness was a factor in the stabbings.
"He was very nonchalant when he said he had stabbed his two fathers and that he suffered a wound while doing so," Los Angeles police Lt. Mike Kozak told KCAL 9. "He was very calm about it."
A neighbor spoke with ABC 7 about the incident, saying that the fathers adopted Matthew Boulet when he was a boy. She and other neighbors said they were shocked about the incident.
"Whatever happened with Matthew going over the edge like that -- that it's all going to be rectified in some way where everyone will heal," neighbor Florence Riggs told ABC 7. "Tom and Ken have been very significant on our block, great models of parenthood."
