Twitter Reacts: Fox News Apologizes for Graphic of Patti LaBelle During Aretha Franklin Report

Fox News is apologizing after it used a photo of singer Patti LaBelle during its coverage of Aretha Franklin's death, the Los Angeles Times reports.
The Queen of Soul died Thursday after a battle with pancreatic cancer. While covering Franklin's death, Fox News aired a graphic of Franklin with her birth and death dates. In the background of the photo LaBelle, a longtime friend of Franklin, is seen. It didn't take long for the pic to spread across social media and for Twitter users to react to the network's blunder.
Fox News released a statement, apologizing for the apparent mix up.
"We sincerely apologize to Aretha Franklin's family and friends," Jessica Santostefano, a Fox News vice president, said in a statement. "Our intention was to honor the icon using a secondary image of her performing with Patti LaBelle in the full-screen graphic, but the image of Ms. Franklin was obscured in that process, which we deeply regret."
Nevertheless, Entertainment Weekly did some detective work and tracked down the original photo with LaBelle, which apparently does not include Franklin.
