Watch: Older Gay Men React to Watching Troye Sivan Music Vids
READ TIME: 2 MIN.
Grindr's queer magazine Into recently released a new video in which they ask older gay men to react to music videos by out pop singer Troye Sivan.
Sivan has made a name of himself in 2018 for being an unabashedly queer singer, even releasing a single called "Bloom" (also the name of his upcoming album) dubbed as an anthem for bottoming. Sivan's career marks a major moment in pop music, far from an age when many singer had to stay in the closet.
Into spoke with four older gay men - Robert E. Reeves, Michael Peterson, Jessay Martin, and Bill Lyons - and ask them to watch Sivan's music videos. None of the men have heard of the singer and none have seen his videos before.
After watching the "Blue Neighborhood" trilogy (a story about a young gay couple), the men respond to the clips.
"It told the story of the anguish of a person coming out to their family and the self doubts it sets up in you and how that's a very destructive force," Reeves said. "It reminds me a lot of my own history which at 75 I've never come out to the rest of my family. My family knows I'm gay but it has never been something that's talked about or dealt with in a confrontational way because it's to be kept hidden away."
After that, they watched the "Bloom" music video.
"I got that he's talking about the love and every time you make love to me I just bloom even more," Martin.
Back in May, Into spoke with older gay men, asking them to define gay slang. Check that out by clicking here.
