Netflix's new comedy series "Insatiable" was met with sharp criticism and poor reviews from around the internet, with many accusing the show of fat-shaming, transphobic jokes and playing off homophobic stereotypes. Despite the controversy and backlash, the streaming service has renewed the show for a second season.

"Insatiable," which stars Debby Ryan, will return next year for another installment, Netflix announced Wednesday.

Created by Lauren Gussis, the hour-long show follows a high school Patricia (Ryan), who was bullied for being overweight but goes on a revenge spree of sorts after losing weight. The controversial series also stars Dallas Roberts, Christopher Gorham, Sarah Colonna, Alyssa Milano and more.

After the trailer for "Insatiable" dropped in July, a Change.org petition was launched, urging Netflix to pull the plug on the series before it even hit the streaming service. Things didn't get better when reviews came out - the comedy has an 11% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Nevertheless, its audience score sits at a high 83%.
