Urban Legends: Final Cut

1998's "Urban Legend" made over $100 million at the box office, so what's a movie studio to do after? The inevitable sequel came out in 2000 and "Urban Legends: Final Cut" didn't have any TV actors from the WB network and put the quips and jokes mostly on the back burner. The result can be seen in a new Blu-ray release from Shout Factory, - one that's not as extensive as the "Urban Legend" Collector's Edition Blu-ray.

Alfred Hitchcock's name gets mentioned several times in "Urban Legends: Final Cut," a film within a film that has a student (Jennifer Morrison) making a horror movie about urban legends. The prestigious Hitchcock trophy at Alpine University will be awarded to the best horror film. But student bodies start piling up and everyone's a suspect, including young hottie Joey Lawrence (here billed as Joseph Lawrence) and Eva Mendez.

There's no big stunt casting this time, but fans of 1980's "Terror Train" will be happy with Hart Bochner's performance. Loretta Devine also gets the pleasure as the only holdover character from the first "Urban Legends," but doesn't have enough to do in the sequel. In fact, most of "Final Cut" copies from the "Scream" sequels, and lifts exact murder sequences from "Scream 2" and "Scream 3."

Director John Ottman (composer of "Halloween: H20") made his first film here and his orchestral music is one of "Final Cut's" highlights.

"The Legend Continues" features interviews with many of the same people who appear in the "Urban Legacy" documentary, found on the "Urban Legend" Blu-ray. Most agree that the sequel fails on a few different levels. Actress Jessica Cauffiel does a separate interview and the charming lady from "Legally Blonde" approached the film from a comedic level vs. a horror one.

Other special features get carried over from a prior DVD release and it's apparent that the "Urban Legends: Final Cut" Blu-ray will be for die-hard fans only.
