Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2
Ken Tasho READ TIME: 2 MIN.
The sequel to the Christmas slasher that made the phrase "Garbage Day" infamous on YouTube sees its first official Blu-ray release this holiday season. "Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2" could only come from the fine folks at Scream Factory, who also brought us the original film on Blu-ray last year.
If you've only heard about "Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2" and have never seen it, this holiday season is the perfect time to gather your friends and laugh at the inanity of the sequel. About 30-40 minutes of screen time in "Part 2" gets dedicated to the first film, and it's apparent that filmmakers didn't have enough of an original story to fill up the 88 minutes.
Yes, "Part 2" can be a total cheat, but the insanely over-the-top acting of Eric Freeman, who plays the brother of the original film's killer, has to be seen to be believed. With a wink and a nod, it's quite obvious that the sequel isn't meant to be taken seriously at all.
There are brand new special features on Shout's Blu-ray, a complete holiday treat as other previous "Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2" releases had no extras.
"Slay Bells Ring Again: The Story of Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2" – this making-of documentary features interviews with cast and crew. The appearance of actor Eric Freeman is a joy, as this elusive actor wasn't aware of the sequel's cult following until recently.
"Garbage Days Are Here Again" – a current look at the various shooting locations of the film.
"Ricky Today" - a hilarious short film featuring actor Eric Freeman recreating the Billy Caldwell character.
"Finding Freeman" - a fake trailer about tracking down actor Eric Freeman. One hopes this fake documentary actually gets made!
Limited Blu-rays can be purchased that come with a Ricky the killer Santa Claus action figure. What a great Christmas gift, indeed.
