Did Tucker Carlson Attack a Gay Latinx Man in Club Fracas?
Kilian Melloy READ TIME: 3 MIN.
Tucker Carlson claims that a gay Latinx man hurled sexist insults at his daughter, leading him and his son to defend her in a fracas that included Carlson's son hurling red wine at the man.
But the man Carlson says insulted his daughter, Juan Manuel Granados, says he never insulted anyone – and says that Carlson and company attacked him without provocation.
The incident was partially captured on a 43-second cell phone video taken by another person who was at the bar of the Farmington Country Club when the events in question unfolded on Oct. 13. What the video shows, according to a report in the Washignton Post is Granados, who at the time was also a member of the club, being cursed at by Carlson and manhandled by another individual.
What the video does not show, however, is Granados calling anyone names, which, according to Carlson, was what started mini-brawl.
Catrlson offered his take on the encounter in a statement he provided to the press over the weekend. He says that he and his son and daughter were dining at the club and minding their own business.
"Toward the end of the meal, my 19-year-old daughter went to the bathroom with a friend," Carlson recounts. "On their way back through the bar, a middle-aged man stopped my daughter and asked if she was sitting with Tucker Carlson."
When his daughter said that Carlson was her father, Carlson claimed, "The man responded, 'Are you Tucker's whore?' He then called her a 'f**king c*nt.'
"My daughter returned to the table in tears," Carlson's account goes on to say. "She soon left the table and the club. My son, who is also a student, went into the bar to confront the man. I followed. My son asked the man if he'd called his sister a 'whore' and a 'cunt.' The man admitted he had, and again become profane. My son threw a glass of red wine in the man's face and told him to leave the bar, which he soon did."
Carlson denied that the man being gay and Latinx had anything to do with the way the encounter unfolded, saying, "What happened on October 13 has nothing to do with identity politics. It was a grotesque violation of decency. I've never seen anything like it in my life."
But if Carlson "never saw anything like it," that, according to others on the scene, is because nothing like the events he describes actually took place. Granados claims that Carlson invented the story "out of thin air," reports UK newspaper The Daily Mail.
In fact, Gradnados claims, Carlson 's daughter, who is only 19, was drinking – and Carlson, he claims, knew it.
"She repeatedly came to the bar to get drinks and Tucker was fully away his daughter was drinking," Granados recounted.
"Tucker's son and Tucker, together with the unidentified 'friend,' [also seen in the video] were the aggressors that night as shown in the video," Granados said. "I never threatened any of them.
"When one views the video, you can clearly see whom is being aggressive. I am seated calmly," Granados goes on to say.
"On the video, Tucker is shown yelling various profanities at me and threatening me. Tucker's friend is seen grabbing me, yanking me off my chair and also threatening physical violence."
Attorney Michael Avenatti, who says he represents Granados, reportedly posted the cell phone video and slammed the Fox News host for his purported 'assault on a gay Latino immigrant," news sources reported.
"We are investigating an alleged assault on a gay latino immigrant committed by T. Carlson and/or members of his inner circle at a club in VA in Oct. It likely includes underage drinking in violation of VA law." Avenatti tweeted, according to a report at Politico, which also noted that Avenatti had on one occasion been dismissed as a "creepy porn lawyer" on Carlson's Fox News show.
Avenatti made headlines when he represented adult performer Stormy Daniels in her suit against President Donald Trump.
