Watch: After Nick Cannon Call Out, Sarah Silverman Says She'll No Longer Use 'Gay' as a Joke

Sarah Silverman is telling TMZ she's no longer going to use the word "gay" as a punchline for her jokes. Her revelation comes after comedian Nick Cannon called her and other woman comics out over their tweets that contained gay slurs.

After Kevin Hart stepped down from hosting the 2019 Oscars due to the backlash surrounding his anti-gay tweets and standup from years ago, Cannon took to Twitter to defend him by retweeting problematic messages from Silverman, Chelsea Handler, and Amy Schumer. Silverman's tweet from 2010 read, "I don't mean this in a hateful way but the new bachelorette's a faggot."

When TMZ asked if she'd continue to make jokes that could be read as homophobic, the "Wreck It Ralph" star said she's "done with that."

"I think I can find other ways to be funny," she said. "I used to say 'gay' all the time. "'Oh, that's so gay.' We're from Boston. We'd go, 'That's what we say in Boston. I have gay friends. I just say gay.'

"And then I heard myself and I realized I was like the guy who says, 'What? I say colored," she continued. "I have colored friends.' " And I realized it was stupid, and I'm certainly creative enough to think of other words besides that, that don't hurt people. But I fuck up all the time."

TMZ then asked Silverman if she'd host the Oscars.

"I don't think I'm the man for the job," she responded.
