READ TIME: 1 MIN.
A tweet about Fred Rogers once suggesting he is bisexual – or perhaps queer – is going viral this week.
Twitter user @CeCeEwing_, who has the handle ProblemsofaBookNerd and describes herself as a lesbian and freelance editor, wrote that her grandmother told her that Mr. Rogers is bisexual.
"And my gay ass, gay of the family, Miss Family Homosexual had to be like 'He was WHAT?'" she tweet.
She followed that message up, saying that after he grandmother watched "Won't You Be My Neighbor," the 2018 documentary about the children's show star, she read his biography.
"Apparently he never used the word, but in an interview where he was asked if he was gay he said something like 'I'm not gay, but I suppose if you look at attraction as a kind of line...I would probably be somewhere in the middle' and like. WHAT." she wrote.
Another Twitter user provided the proof, sharing a screenshot of the passage from "The Good Neighbor."
"In conversation with one of his friends, the only gay Dr. William Hirsch, Fred Rogers himself concluded that if sexuality was measured on a scale from one to ten: 'Well, you know, I must be right smack I the middle. Because I have found women attractive, and I have found men attractive."
Rogers' views on homosexuality were explored in "Won't You Be My Neighbor."
"A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood," a biopic about Rogers starring Tom hanks, will be released. It's directed by Marielle Heller, who helmed the 2018 queer comedy "Can You Ever Forgive Me?"
