Kuwaiti Cure for 'Anal Worms' that Purportedly Cause Gayness?

Could the source of sexual and romantic attraction between people of the same sex be hitherto-unknown "anal worms" that devour semen and not only make men gay, but turn women into "butch lesbians?"

That's the theory being floated by a purported "academic" in Kuwait who took to TV to share her exciting claims with an anxiously waiting world, reported The Jerusalem Post.

Mariam Al-Sohel – which the Jerusalem Post article identofied with the honorific "Dr.," even as it tagged her as "homophobic" and "anti-gay and anti-lesbian" – claimed that she had made the "scientific" breakthrough thanks to "prophetic medicine." In her recounting, the semen-eating "anal worms" are somehow transmitted by means of the gay person having been "sexually attacked," though the exact means of transmission (as well as the genus and any general description of the worms) were left unspecified. The worms don't just eat semen, however; they also, according to Al-Sohel, create "excessive sexual urges" in gays and lesbians.

Exactly how the worms accomplish this – and what they eat after colonizing lesbians – was not covered. But what Al-Sohel did clarify was that gays and lesbians now have hope, thanks to her dietary insights ("bitter foods increase masculinity" – hear that? No sugar and spice for you, fellas!) and, even better, her invention of suppositories that eradicate the semen-eating anal worms.

The cure isn't just effective on gay men, Al-Sohal says; butch lesbians, too (which she refers to as the "fourth gender") can now be cured. As it turns out, "the ingredients are the same" for suppositories that cure gays and those that cure lesbians, "but I made them into different colors."

We'll hazard a guess: Blue for boys, pink for girls.

The mindset of boring Western medicine dominated the response from other parts of the world, with critics comparing Al-Sohel's therapeutic theories to so-called "reparative therapy," which claims that gays and lesbians can be "cured" or "converted" into heterosexuals through talk therapy, aversion therapy (which some have likened to torture), prayer, or some combination of those things.

"The cure for homosexuality is popular among religious fundamentalists," said former Green Party member of the German government and current lecturer at Ruhr University Volker Beck, the Jerusalem Post reported. "It is quackery and charlatanry," Beck added, going on to say, "Whether it is Al-Sohel's suppositories or from Catholic doctors in Germany, it is hocus pocus that reveals much about the mental state of these people."

British LGBTQ equality activist Peter Tatchell weighed in also, saying, "This is the most bizarre homophobic nonsense that I have heard in ages." Calling Al-Sohel's claims "another outrageous Islamic-inspired attempt to eradicate same-sex desires." Tatchell went on to declare, "This academic is mirroring failed Nazi attempts to cure homosexuality."

The government of Kuwait has exhibited strict anti-LGBTQ attitudes, noted the Jerusalem Post, referencing the way censors there excised a reference to same-sex love from the film "Beauty and the Beast."
