There's been much fanfare about the sex scenes in the upcoming Elton John biopic "Rocketman." Star Taron Egerton, who plays the iconic singer. In a new interview with Attitude magazine, the actor opens up a bit about filming those moments with costar Richard Madden, who plays John's former manager and lover John Reid.
It was previously reported that Paramount studio execs wanted to nix the gay sex scenes in "Rocketman" in order to score a PG-13 rating but director Dexter Fletcher confirmed that wouldn't be the case and the film will carry an R rating. Speaking with Attitude, Egerton discussed the sex scenes, saying they were filmed naked...and a lot more.
"I felt Richard's penis... On my leg," Egerton said. "We shot a scene where we are both naked on a bed and we are rolling around. I don't really know how much further we could have gone.
"In the script, this is the scene of Elton losing his virginity and we wanted to try to do that justice, and also at that point, their relationship hasn't broken down yet," the actor went on to say. "They were falling in love and it's beautiful because it should be.
"We didn't want to play like they were a couple who were eventually going to fall apart, we wanted to play it like two guys in their early twenties who are falling in love and who are incredibly sexually attracted to each other," he told Attitude.
Egerton also talked about kissing Madden with passion because it was the moment John fell in love with Reid.
"The rawness of that experience, the fear of that experience, but also the joy of the experience of Elton's first kiss... it's electric, it's exciting, your stomach is doing somersaults," he explained. "I treat it with the same love, care and affection I would as if it was my first experience of falling for somebody."
