A man locked up in Texas on suspicion of fatally shooting a gay victim may have perpetrated the crime out of a hatred of LGBTQ people, reports Houston ABC affiliate Channel 13.

The suspect, identified as Davonte Garrison, 22, reportedly told a tipster identified as "Bunny" that he had intended to rob and kill Adrienne Lee Ward, 30, out of anti-gay sentiment. Bunny said that Garrison described the deadly encounter to her via a hookup app called Tagged – the same app that authorities believe Garrison may have used to lure the victim.

Bunny described the scene as she said Garrison laid it out for her: After luring Ward to a meeting, ostensibly to hook up, Garrison shot the victim. He then "fell out of" Ward's car as Ward tried to escape by gunning the vehicle.

Ward's car ended up flipping and crashing into an apartment's patio, reported click2Houston, which also said that surveillance cameras recorded images of Garrison getting out of Ward's car before then firing a number of shots into the vehicle before it raced away.

Authorities responded to the crash, finding Ward "unresponsive," media reports said. Ward was transported to a local hospital, where he died, reported Patch.com.

The shooting took place shortly before 2:30 a.m. on the morning of April 19. Garrison has been arrested and charged with Capital Murder, and is now in jail; media reports said he had been denied bail. Garrison is expected in court on May 1.
