Storm Chaser Proposes to Boyfriend – While Tornado Rages Nearby

In the face of global and domestic problems such as climate change, rising populism, and attacks on LGBTQ families and individuals, is there hope for same-sex romance? Indeed, there is: In what could be taken as an apt metaphor, storm chaser Joey Krastel popped the question to his boyfriend, fellow extreme weather enthusiast Chris Scott, during a tornado chase – even as a twister raged and approached in the background.
NBC News reported on the unique proposal, which Krastel captured in a photo and posted about in a May 28 tweet that read, "The 2 loves of my life."
Krastel told NBC that the idea of proposing during a storm chase had been "in the back of my mind" for years, because even before they got together Scott queried him on Instagram, "Hey, do you actually chase tornadoes?"
"I felt like it was the perfect way to seal the deal," Krastel said.
The big day arrived as Krastel, Scott, and a couple of friends were chasing a storm in Kansas. "It all just kind of came together and happened so quickly," Krastel told NBC. "It was like, 'Okay, this is it.' "

But Krastel also offered a word of caution: Don't try this at home.
"People need to listen to the warnings and listen to the National Weather Service and their local meteorologists," he warned, going on to add, "They know what they're talking about and their only goal is to save you."
The nation's weather has been savage in places of late, noted CNN, with extreme heat in the Southwest, frigid temperatures in the West, and flooding in the heartland, as well as an unusual spike in the incidence of tornadoes, as well as flooding. The CNN report said that the various weather-related calamities all stem from a common source: A jet stream that is causing wide-spread weather patterns of unusual severity.
