Lust For A Vampire

Vampires have long been sexual in nature, from Dracula and all the way now to the ones depicted in Shout Factory's newest Blu-ray from its growing Hammer Films catalog.

"Lust for a Vampire" followed "The Vampire Lovers," and helped form a trilogy of lesbian-infused vampire lust. Like other Hammer films, it follows a similar pattern of taking place in a secluded location and all hell breaks loose at the end.

In probably the highest female nudity quotient of all of the Hammer Blu-ray releases this reviewer has seen, "Lust for a Vampire" picks up the story of female vampire Carmilla (Yutte Stensgaard) right where it left off. She comes back to life after a bizarre black magic ritual and poof, suddenly the hot to trot Carmilla enrolls at a female boarding school. This gives the seductress the chance to massage fellow female classmates, take late-night skinny dipping sessions with students (all female), and lust after her teacher.

Suddenly, the bodies start piling up in gruesome fashion and although that sounds like the plot from an '80s slasher film, it has the Hammer stamp on it instead.

Several of the Hammer Films are salacious in nature, and "Lust for a Vampire" ranks right up there in that category. It has the requisite Hammer females, who are lusty and busty all at once. Shout/Scream Factory should be commended for unearthing this semi-obscure sequel.

Inexplicably, there are two different aspect ratios to view the "Lust for a Vampire" Blu-ray. There are also new audio commentaries and a new interview with actress Mel Churcher. From other "Lust for a Vampire" DVD releases are radio spots, still galleries, and audio commentaries with the director and some of the film's stars.
