Zhu joins the group after
In the second incident, she replied to another user, saying: "Did you know the majority of black deaths are caused by other blacks? Fix problems within your own community before blaming others."
Both tweets have since been deleted, despite the subsequent defense of her statements. When addressing the Women for Trump audience, she said:
"I think that everything I've said is considered free speech because it is backed up by statistics, facts, something I have experiences or my opinions. I don't have a racist bone in my body. I don't think I am Islamophobic, but I am going to criticize something that doesn't fit within my morals when I see it."
Despite the controversy, the Twitter account @TeamTrump, the "Official Twitter for the Trump Campaign," formally welcomed her to the new Advisory Board, saying:
"Team Trump welcomes Kathy Zhu to the Official #WomenforTrump Coalition Advisory Board!"
Zhu, a 20-year-old University of Michigan student, replied, saying:
"I am so excited to now be part of the #WomenforTrump Coalition Advisory Board! Let's get Trump re-elected for 2020."
It remains to be seen what her role will be in both the Trump reelection campaign and on the Coalition Advisory Board.
