When you wish upon a star... Clearly "wishing" wasn't enough for Walt Disney. The legend behind the most classic animated motion pictures, envisioned a fantasyland and world of tomorrow come to life! Disney and his artists revolutionized the way audiences looked at animated films, putting on screen some of the most popular fairy tales of all time, all the while creating an entire family of characters including the most famous mouse on the planet – Mickey Mouse – to which a generation found themselves marching in step to as part of the Mickey Mouse Club.
Disney's vision went beyond just the darkened cinemas to which audiences filled seats by the thousands to experience to latest cartoon epic. He wanted to transport and transform his audience, placing them inside the movies and sparking everyone's imagination and thirst for wonder! Walt Disney envisioned a land – a Disneyland – and poured his heart and every cent he could find into realize a world of wonder, where your childhood would always be preserved and cherished – where everyone laughed and smiled.
The journey to Disneyland was not an easy one, and Disney challenged all of his staff of creatives as well as himself to create an experience that would be unlike anything anyone has ever seen. In the brand new documentary series "The Imagineering Story" available as part of the original content on the Disney+ subscriber service, the minds behind the magical world of Disney have decidedly pulled back the curtain and brought their audience into the inner sanctum – to a world before there was a Disneyland to experience the literal groundbreaking.
In Episode 1, "The Happiest Place On Earth," viewers will be given the insight to Walt Disney's vision for creating and bringing to life his ambitious magical kingdom! Disney didn't just want to build a theme park, he wanted to replicate the experience of wonder of his fairy tale animations. Disney recruited everyone on his team, his animators and creatives, to put together Disneyland – and he did it by promising and promoting it every week on his classic television series. It was the first time that audiences were given a glimpse of the magic making.
Now, years later, Disneyland has given rise to Disney World and was followed by EPCOT Center (Disney's City of the Future) and the franchise expanded beyond just our borders to include a Tokyo Disneyland. This is the story of how Disney has endured and become the iconic organization it is. If you can imagine it, Disney can build it! No challenge is too great, and no obstacle too high. Here's the story of how they all got it done.
