Neil Patrick Harris Joins 'Matrix 4' for Unknown Role

The newest installment in the "Matrix" franchise is getting another boost of star power: Neil Patrick Harris is joining the cast of the upcoming sci-fi film, Variety reports.
NPH joins a star-studded cast, which includes Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss returning to their roles. Additionally, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II was recently announced to join the film. Variety notes Jada Pinkett Smith is currently in talks to reprise her role as Niobe.
In August, Warner Bros. was announced "Matrix 4" is actually happening and that Lana Wachowski would direct the film.
"We could not be more excited to be re-entering 'The Matrix' with Lana," Toby Emmerich, Warner Bros. Picture Group Chairman, told Variety at the time. "Lana is a true visionary – a singular and original creative filmmaker – and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in 'The Matrix' universe."
Aleksander Hemon and David Mitchel wrote the script, and production is expected to being in early 2020.
Wachowski and her sister Lilly wrote and directed "The Matrix" trilogy, which collectively earned more than $1.6 billion around the world.
"Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now. I'm very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends," Wachowski told Variety.
In other Harris news, it was recently reported he'd star in "Boys," an upcoming series by British writer Russell T. Davies, creator of "Queer as Folk." The new show will be about the AIDS crisis, and set in '80s London.
