On Monday's episode of "The Talk," singer Marie Osmond revealed that there was a point in her life during which she thought she might have been gay. The CMA winner told her co-hosts that:
"When I was about 8 or 9 I actually thought I was gay. And the reason is because I had been sexually abused to the point that men made me sick,"
She went on to say that the men in her family helped change her mind on the subject of men at large.
"And then, I realized because I'm a thinker, why did God give me these great brothers and why did he give me this amazing father?" Osmond said. "And truly they changed my opinion of men, which made me feel that it was something I was going through."
Her comments came up while the cast discussed
"There are good men out there guys, don't give up," Cyrus tweeted Sunday. "You don't have to be gay, there are good people with (penises) out there, you just got to find them."
Osmond, in response, said: "So when I hear her say that, there was a point in my life – I had so many body issues... and I was looking at women and I thought, 'Why am I looking at women? I must be gay. '"
Cyrus responded to the criticism Monday, tweeting "I was talking (expletive) about (guys), but let me be clear, YOU don't CHOOSE your sexuality. You are born as you are. It has always been my priority to protect the LGBTQ community I am a part of," she wrote, adding a rainbow emoji.
