In New Interview, Jeff Goldblum Reveals Father Sent Brother to Gay Conversion Therapy
READ TIME: 1 MIN.
In a revealing new interview with the U.K. newspaper The Times Magazine, Jeff Goldblum revealed that his father kept his brother's sexuality a secret and sent him to conversion therapy.
The "Fly" star said that his father had "a traditional masculine sense of himself" and had issues with his brother Lee, who died in 2000, being gay.
"He didn't tell the rest of us. Sent him to a therapist in order to 'fix him,' " Goldblum told The Times. "It was all secret. That's not so nourishing. My dad was, without knowing why, conspicuously cruel to [Lee] at times."
He also said that Lee had "troubles of one kind or another" throughout his life like "physical ailments, [being] overweight, pharmaceuticals abuse and self-medication issues." Goldblum added that Lee had trouble with work. After studying in medical school, he joined the Army, before working as a taxi driver. Then, "for the last couple of decades of his life" Lee moved back with their parents, who did not treat him well.
Goldblum's interview comes as his new docuseries for Disney+ "The World According to Jeff Goldblum" launches on Nov. 12. Check out the trailer below and click here to read the full piece from The Times.
