The World According To Jeff Goldblum
JC Alvarez READ TIME: 2 MIN.
Who knew?
Somewhere along the line, whether it was while running fearlessly from dinosaur clones or becoming a hybrid creature yearning to dumpster dive, Jeff Goldblum found the time to start asking himself the "big questions" and arrive at some pretty incredible conclusions for himself. In the new Disney+ documentary series "The World According to Jeff Goldblum," the actor turns his quirky neurosis into something pretty insightful.
Goldblum has an especially entertaining way of taking the most mundane thing, perhaps something that we all take for granted and find a slant that is interesting and engaging. For example in one episode he takes on the "sneaker" – the footwear has gone from all-purpose to cultural phenomenon. In the span of 40 minutes, Jeff Goldblum and his camera crew examine the significance of the shoe that has turned into an iconic symbol for many. Goldblum visits the high stakes, high rolling on the floor of a Sneaker Convention to meet "real fans" of the brands.
He even tracks down an artist that makes uniquely designed sneakers specific to their owner; Goldblum enlists him to make a pair that pay homage to one of his own ancestors – someone who might have been eligible to play in the NBA. The sneaker means more than just something comfortable you put on your feet to play a game, or run a lap, and can even determine one's standing on and off the course. Jeff Goldblum applies his own inquisitive nature to answering these questions, and many more.
During the course of Season One of "The World According to Jeff Goldblum," the audience will take a trip with its host to learn the real value of denim, the many facets of ice cream, and the true significance a tattoo plays in society. The series is well done, and Goldblum is fun to watch. It's not singularly structured to only appeal to a young audience and is certainly something the whole family can watch. It sits well among the premier offerings on the launch of the Disney+ subscriber-based digital service.
