Musical political satirist Randy Rainbow found plenty of fodder for his latest video - a musical parody in which the comedian enunciates the latest examples of the president's increasingly authoritarian behavior, with the Republican party - having abandoned all its former putative values, and all pretense otherwise - standing solidly behind him.

The video begins in typical Rainbow fashion: With a faux interview that consists of existing footage spliced together with footage of Rainbow himself, in the role of press interlocutor. The subject of this interview is none other than Attorney General William J. Barr.

Greeting the controversial head of the DOJ - who has come under fire for seemingly serving as Trump's errand boy rather than maintaining the integrity and independence of the Department of Justice - by the name "Roseanne," Rainbow chats with Barr about Justin Bieber's latest album and proposes that the president would benefit by having his Twitter privileges revoked.

The topic at hand being so inflammatory, Rainbow resorted to a double dose of his signature hot pink cat's-eye glasses, putting one pair over the other as he fretted about the abandon with which Trump's post-impeachment conduct is now smashing ordinary norms and institutions as never before.

"He's now doing whatever he wants," Rainbow exclaims. "Interfering in criminal cases... "

Barr maintains a seemingly culpable silence.

"Farting constantly in the Oval Office, and blaming it on Melania," Rainbow adds, shaking his head in disappointment.

Then the strains of Dua Lipa's aptly chosen song "New Rules" starts up, and Rainbow launches into custom-written lyrics.

"Lord this bitch done lost his mind; think it's worse than ever," Rainbow croons, before the Rainbow Chorus - multiple images of the comedian - chime in with, "Out of his mind! Out of his mind!"

"Presidents are s'posed to be impartial, fair, and measured," Rainbow continues.

"And also kind," the Rainbow Chorus puts in. "They should be kind."

"But Trump - he presidents like nobody else. Donald Trump - he only plays by rules he wrote himself."

Rainbow then swings into a checklist of Trump tactics for converting the democracy he was elected to lead into a de facto dictatorship.

"One: Ignore the law. Pretend the Constitution isn't there anymore. two: Stick up for thugs, no matter what they're guilty of."

At this juncture, an image of Trump's friend Roger Stone appears, an obvious reference to the president's recent demands that the courts reduce the sentence Stone faces after having been convicted of multiple felonies. More recently, Trump has suggested that Stone's case be thrown out entirely, despite his already having been convicted.

A recent flurry of presidential pardons, some quite controversial, has pundits wondering whether Trump might simply use the power of this office to pardon Stone.

Trump has gone so far as to dub himself "the chief law enforcement officer of the country," reports the New York Times.

Even Barr, meantime, has shown signs of exasperation with the president, publicly declaring his unhappiness with Trump's direct and overt meddling in judicial and law enforcement affairs.

"Three," Rainbow's parody song continues. "Pick up the phone and pressure foreign governments to win your elections."

It was just such a call to the president of Ukraine that led to Trump's impeachment after Trump held promised funds to that embattled country hostage to a demand that Ukraine officials launch an investigation into Hunter Biden, son of once-dominant Democratic rival Joe Biden. Until recently, Biden was seen as a top contender for the Democratic nomination in this year's presidential election.

There is no indication that either Hunter Biden nor Joe Biden have done anything illegal or improper, and critics note that while Trump seemed to be hoping to spin Hunter Biden's former membership on the board of a Ukrainian natural gas company into a smear against Joe Biden, Trump's own children occupy similar positions, themselves.

"Till Republicans let you do it all again," Rainbow adds - as indeed, the Republican-dominated Senate did, in refusing to hold even the semblance of normal trial in the course of impeachment proceedings against Trump. in the end, only one Republican - Mitt Romney - voted to convict Trump on charges of obstruction of justice and abuse of power.

"There are no rules for Donald!" Rainbow, backed by his virtual chorus, summarizes.
