A number of Twitter users are reacting and responding to former Illinois U.S. Rep. Aaron Schock after he came out as gay in a lengthy post shared to Instagram this week.
A number of prominent queer Twitter users and celebs took time Thursday and Friday to respond to Schock's confirmation that he is gay. There have been rumors for years about his sexuality while he was a Congressman and opposed LGBTQ rights.
"I am gay," he started his post. He also discussed about his lack of support for LGBTQ issues, noting that if he were serving today, he'd fight for the LGBTQ community.
"That fact doesn't make my then position any less wrong, but it's sometimes easy to forget that it was leaders of both parties who for so long wrongly understood what it was to defend the right to marry," Schock writes, later adding, "The truth is that if I were in Congress today, I would support LGBTQ rights in every way I could."
