Rising star Harry Hains, who appeared on shows like "American Horror Story" and "The OA," died in January at 27. Now, the cause of the death for the young Australian actor has been revealed, Entertainment Weekly is reporting.

Two months after Hains' mother, actress Jane Badler, confirmed her son's death, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's Office revealed that the actor died of fentanyl intoxication.

In an Instagram post from January, Badler wrote that her son "was 27 and had the world at his feet. But sadly he struggled with mental illness and addiction." EW notes that she also shared a photo of Hains to her Instagram Stories, writing, "My beautiful poetic boy .. forever young."

In a March 2019 interview with the U.K. publication with Boys by Girls, Hains said he identified "in the realm of gender-fluid" and that people should "be whatever they want." He also opened up about suffering from a sleeping disorder while growing up and he began taking pills at a young age.

"Maybe I have a part of me that is self-destructive, because I think I do have that," Hains said. "Growing up I had a very serious sleeping disorder called Idiopathic Insomnia. I couldn't sleep for my entire childhood until I started taking sleeping pills at 12/13. So I was tortured by sleep deprivation and I had a lot of phobias."

He also said he was looking forward to a career in acting and being an LGBTQ community.

"I'd love to create a space for LGBTQ+ artists where people can feel safe to go and create art and exist and collaborate in this space," he told Boys By Girls. "Not just for LGBTQ+ artists, but for anyone who feels judged in the outside world or feels like an outsider or minority."
