Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

Remember when we all used to get together and yell, "Move that bus?" Followed by prodigious hugging? Now we can experience that pre-COVID life and live vicariously through video with a new episode of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition."
Host and "Modern Family" star Jesse Tyler Ferguson introduces the Joseph family and the police officer dad who regularly helps the 13- to 15,000 homeless people on Los Angeles' Skid Row.
LAPD's Deon Joseph patrols the 30-block radius, which one participant calls "the humanitarian crisis of our generation," where he helps the indigent find housing and passes out hygiene kits of toothbrushes, toothpaste, shaving cream, and the like.
Deon's wife, Tosha, and their sons help "the angel cop of Skid Row" assemble those kits in their overcrowded garage. The rest of the 1943 house is falling apart as well, including problems with the heating pipes, plus a leaky roof that has caused water damage and mold issues. Because Deon has been busy helping his community, his home has been repaired with duct tape; "He's not Mister Fix-it, he's Mister Patch-it," says Tosha.
A large contingent of Carson, California, neighbors, including fellow police officers, show up to raze the old and raise the new dwelling, creating a beach-inspired interior and elevating their "love dungeon" master bedroom into a "love nest" complete with retractable blinds. The garage becomes a game room complete with a foosball table and an area to assemble those hygiene kits. The backyard is spruced up, too, with a new barbecue and bar area looking like "out of a magazine," Deon says.
Officer Joseph also has the poignant parting words: "The fight for the people of Skid Row is just beginning."
