"The Internet may be out of masks, bandannas, and scarves," TV personality Emerson Collins advises in a video tutorial on how to make your own COVID-19 protective gear out of a common item of apparel, "but it's not out of jockstraps!"
Out designers Michael Costello and Christian Siriano may have turned their industrious teams to the task of creating face masks to help combat the pandemic, but Collins shows how any fashion-conscious man can devise his own personal protective equipment by repurposing the common article of athletic wear. The results are chic if a little... cheeky.
The tutorial, titled "I made a Jockstrap Mask Tutorial, because I'm ridiculous," appeared at TikTok.
Collins also posted the humorous video to Twitter.
The tutorial is not only practical in a pinch, but adorable as well.

"The People's Couch" star and former host of radio program "The Del & Emerson Show" takes viewers through the simple process of turning a jockstrap into a potentially lifesaving face mask in four easy steps.
Collins also shows off how easy it is to accessorize with the makeshift COVID-wear, matching colors and patterns so that shirts and masks harmonize perfectly - though he also points out, for the benefit of his straight viewers, that the "sad" athletic supporter form their high school or college football days will work just as well.
"So new, used, or worn," Collins summarizes, "it's your choice - and remember, don't go out of the house unless you have to go out of the house."
Collins, for one, won't need to leave the safety of his home in order to secure additional jockstraps. Showing off a massive multi-colored pile of the garments, he tells the camera, "I'm an absurd person."
