"Bad Education," a new film starring Hugh Jackman and Allison Janey, quietly debuted on HBO last weekend after the network purchased the film at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.
Directed by Cory Finley ("Thoroughbreds"), the film tells the true story of the largest public school embezzlement in American history, which took place on Long Island in the early 00s. But it also happens to be one of the best queer films of the year so far. (Not to be confused with Pedro Almodovar's 2004 queer classic "Bad Education.")
But "Bad Education" is a lot more than a 108-minute caper. It delves into the psyche of Dr. Francis A. Tassone (Jackman), a closeted gay man who has his wheelings and dealings tied up with his secret personal life. It's a portrayal of how one presents themselves to the world and how their secrets can eat away at them and destroy everything.
Jackman's performance as the disgraced teacher has also earned some of the best reviews of his career and the film currently has a 93% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
"Bad Education" is now available to watch on HBO, HBO Now and HBO Go. Check out the trailer below.
