Watch: Ted Cruz Tells Fox News He's Upset China is Censoring LGBTQ Themes Out of American Movies

Ted Cruz (R-TX) appeared on Fox News over the weekend to slam China for censoring LGBTQ themes out of American movies, Raw Story reports.
He's so upset, he revealed that he's sponsoring new legislation that aims to punish Hollywood studios who work with China over its censorship requirements.
"One of your bills is called the Script Act," Fox News host Maria Bartiromo said. "[Chinese officials] have really bullied Hollywood and Hollywood producers roll over about it. You've mentioned a couple of films before 'Top Gun,' 'Bohemian Rhapsody.'"
Cruz responded by saying it is "tragic" that "Hollywood has been so willing to, over and over again, to kowtow to Chinese communists and let the Chinese government censor American movies."
Referring to the "Top Gun" character played by Tom Cruise, Cruz said: "We're saying Maverick is afraid of the damn Chinese communists."
But the Republican senator had a big problem with the way the 2018 "Bohemian Rhapsody," the biopic about Queen front man Freddie Mercury (played by Rami Malek, who won an Oscar for his role), was edited. The film shown in China nixed parts of the film that revealed Mercury was queer.
"And 'Bohemian Rhapsody'!" Bartiromo said. "The Chinese communist government wanted them to edit out part when [Freddie Mercury] was gay? How do you tell the story of 'Bohemian Rhapsody' and not say that Freddie was gay?"
Cruz replied: "You don't. But Hollywood was more than happy to edit the scene out. They did it because the Chinese government didn't want to acknowledge that Freddy Mercury was homosexual. Look, that's a huge part of the story!"
"The problem is Hollywood is more interested in making millions of dollars from the Chinese market than they are in free speech, than they are in artistic integrity," he added.
Raw Story notes that under Cruz's proposed measure, Hollywood studios would not be allowed to use military equipment in movies unless they no longer allowed China to censor American movies.
Meanwhile, Cruz's state of Texas currently has nearly 31,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus. A new report from The Daily Beast says that Dallas County saw its biggest single-day jump of COVID-19 cases as Texas began reopening.
