Ralph Fiennes to Get in Drag to Play Miss Trunchbull for Netflix's 'Matilda' Musical Film
READ TIME: 1 MIN.
Deadline is reporting that actor Ralph Fiennes is set to play Miss Trunchbull in Netflix's musical adaptation of the beloved Roald Dhal's classic, "Matilda."
The film is based on the music stage play version of the book (and not the '90s kids' movie, directed and starring Danny DeVito). The story finds a brilliant young girl – Matilda – bumping against her pigheaded parents and nemesis, Miss Trunchbull, the headmistress of her school.
"Matilda The Musical" was helmed by Matthew Warchus, director of the 2014 queer dramedy "Pride." He will also direct the Netflix adaptation and Dennis Kelly, who won a Tony for adapting the novel, is writing the film's screenplay. The musical has been running in London since 2011 and successfully moved to Broadway for a 2013-2017 run.
"Matilda" won't be the only Dahl story coming to Netflix. Deadline reports the streamer also has plans of remaking "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," as well as "The BFG."
