GLAAD is condemning recent controversial tweets made by "Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling, saying, "In 2020, there is no excuse for targeting trans people."

The tweets in question came from Rowland Sunday, where she responded to an article that said "people who menstruate." She took issue with the use of the word "people" and fired off a thread about the concept of biological sex.

"I'm sure there used to be a word for those people," the British author tweeted. "Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?"

She added: "If sex isn't real, there's no same-sex attraction. If sex isn't real, the lived reality of women globally is erased. I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives. It isn't hate to speak the truth."

After being called out on Twitter where he responses were deemed transphobic, GLAAD issued a statement regarding Rowland and her remarks.

"JK Rowling continues to align herself with an ideology which willfully distorts facts about gender identity and people who are trans. In 2020, there is no excuse for targeting trans people," GLAAD tweeted.
