'Harry Potter' Star Daniel Radcliffe Calls Out J.K. Rowling: 'Transgender Women are Women'
READ TIME: 1 MIN.
"Harry Potter" actor Daniel Radcliffe is responding to author J.K. Rowling over her latest controversial tweets that were deemed transphobic by many.
Radcliffe, who played the titular wizard in the film adaptions of Rowling's books, shared an essay with the LGBTQ group the Trevor Project, saying, "Transgender women are women."
"Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people and goes against all advice given by professional health care associations who have far more expertise on this subject matter than either Jo or I," the 30-year-old actor wrote.
"It's clear that we need to do more to support transgender and nonbinary people, not invalidate their identities, and not cause further harm," Radcliffe wrote.
His comments are in response to Rowling's reaction to a science article where she argued about gender identity and biological sex. Click here to read more about that and click here to read Radcliffe's full essay.
Rowling has yet to respond to the backlash.
