On Social Media Conservatives Target Bette Midler's Comments on Melania's RNC Speech

Bette Midler has found herself at the center of a Twitter controversy this week after tweeting during First Lady Melania Trump's speech during the Republican National Convention Tuesday night, Variety reports.

Midler was live-tweeting the event, but a few messages stuck out above the rest, including one tweet in which the "Hocus Pocus" star wrote, "Get that illegal alien off the stage!" when referring to Trump. Another tweet that gained traction, Midler fired off: "Oh, God. She still can't speak English."

Midler was hit with a backlash mostly from conservatives for her remarks. She later quote-tweeted herself, adding, "Why not? Just giving them a taste of their own immigrant-bashing medicine. I guess they're not keen."
