Watch: TikTok User Belts Out 'Bad Romance' and Outs Homophobic Dad
READ TIME: 3 MIN.
TikTok user @zephryn has gone viral in which they belt an a capella version of "Bad Romance" as slides tell a dark story that outs their homophobic father.
It's a family saga worthy of a HBO series. And it unfolds in less-than-a-minute on a TikTok with a an a capella version of "Bad Romance" as its soundtrack.
It was posted by TikTok user @zephryn and features them, who looks like Dave Franco's younger brother, who repeats singing "this is a bad romance" seven times, each time an octave higher, as their story unfolds in a series of slides that tell their revenge story on their homophobic hypocrite of a father.
So far his TikTok has 2.6 million likes, 33.8 thousand comments, and 68.2 thousand shares.
It is the latest in a social media trend in which users sing an "a capella rendition of Lady Gaga's 'Bad Romance' to retell traumatizing stories," writes Paper Magazine.

The trend started last month when user Grace Groski posted a TikTok belting the song's hook seven times over each time moving up an octave. It went viral. "That said, in between the sound's intensity and rapidly escalating 'woah oh oh oh oh ohs,' it didn't take long for it to pop off and eventually be repurposed by a number of people for some super dark storytimes," writes Paper.
And @zephryn's gets super dark. In their story they tells of how their sister was kicked out by their "homophobic father" from the family house when she was 16 for being Bi. They then says they was "raised to be anything but gay by my father." It didn't work. they comes out at 15, gets tossed out of their house, which left them homeless for two days because they couldn't contact their mom. (Their parents were divorced.)
Sometime later their dad starts a new job and gives their laptop to their nephew with the dad's emails and Craigslist information unprotected. His sisters investigated and learned their dad was selling himself for sex on Craigslist for years. Then someone on @zephryn's Grindr sent them pictures of an orgy in which their dad was one of the participants.
They conclude with: "My sisters and I putting all the evidence in Christmas stockings for the whole family on Christmas morning 2017."
But running counterpoint to the story is @zephryn's startled reactions each time the verse begins an octave higher, as if surprised by his own vocal prowess.
