Longstanding rumors that "Sister Act 3" was in development ave now been verified, with news that Whoopi Goldberg, star of the first two films, will reprise her role as Deloris Wilson, reports Deadline.
The first indications dropped in 2018 that there might be a threequel followup to the 1992 original and its 1993 followup, "Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit," but those initial murmurs also said that Goldberg would not be part of the project.
But Goldman herself revived the rumors in October, telling James Corden that "People might want to see" a third part, and adding, "we're working diligently to figure out how to get the gang together," CNN reported.
"Listen - bad singing, great singing. OK singing and then nuns. What's better than that?" Goldberg added.
Sean Bailey, head of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, announced the project during a Dec. 10 virtual presentation for Disney Investor Day, Deadline reported.
The official announcement verified that Goldberg will not only return, but will also produce. Tyler Perry, the creative force behind the "Madea" film franchise, is also in board as a producer.
The new film will air on streaming service Disney+.
